Frequently Asked Questions
What is Pre-Pharmacy Society (PPS)?
We are an organization that promotes the career of pharmacy through a
variety of resources that include workshops, volunteer opportunities,
guest speakers, and networking to compliment the interests of our
members. Our main objectives are to better prepare our members for
pharmacy school admission and to learn and explore the multitude of
career options for pharmacists. While providing essential information
to our members, PPS also strives to make the club as fun as possible
for everybody through our social and volunteer events.
What are the workshops offered by PPS?
The workshops are essentially information-sessions specifically
designed for preparing students for pharmacy school. Each workshop will
focus on a certain topic which will range from mock interviews,
pre-requisite planning, volunteering advice, PharmCAS tutorials, and
much more.
How do I become an active member?
To become an active member and receive e-mails from PPS a one-time $15
membership fee must be paid which will cover membership for the entire
school year. An active member must also be willing to give some
volunteer time and attend the events hosted by the club.
How can I become an officer?
The first requirement is to be an active and paid member. Officer
applications will be given during Spring quarter and applicants will be
chosen by PPS based on their level of involvement throughout the year,
display of interest for the club, and interview performance.
Why choose pharmacy as a career?
The career of pharmacy is very appealing for a variety of reasons.
Although most people envision a pharmacist as someone who just pops
pills into a container, the career goes far beyond simply working
behind the counter. The pharmacy career goes beyond the retail setting
including areas such as ambulatory care, nuclear pharmacy, marine
pharmacology, and many more. Due to high demand and the rapid growth of
the health industry, the field of pharmacy has become a very dynamic
environment.
What do I need to do to get into pharmacy school?
Getting into pharmacy school is becoming more and more competitive each
year, and every pharmacy school requires a different list of course
pre-requisites. For a general idea of what most pharmacy schools
require

At the moment, none of the California pharmacy schools require the
Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) for admission but most pharmacy
schools outside of California do. All interested applicants should know
that most pharmacy schools expect at least a 3.0 GPA and some volunteer
or work experience in pharmacy. Applicants should also research early
which pharmacy schools they wish to attend as there are many specific
pre-requisites that vary between schools.
